finally here

It's finally here. In a few short hours I'll be taking off for a week of fun in the rain of england. ran my errands, finished packing, and now i'm just biding my time.

My nightmare right now is that I'll be halfway to the airport when I realize I forgot my passport. Hopefully, i've been thinking and saying that enough that I won't actually forget, but still - fingers crossed.

See ya' next week, with pictures.

one more day

I do not care for the phrase "one more day" because I cannot say or hear it with the song from Les Mis getting stuck in my head for at least an hour. And I know, the song is actually called "One Day More" but that's close enough as to make no difference to my addled brain.

But I digress. That time is almost here. I'm entirely ready to pack, but I haven't actually put anything in a bag yet. It's all neatly laid out and ready to go in a bag tonight after I look at it all some more this evening. And some excellent news from the TSA this morning - carry-ons are now allowed for my flight. And small amounts of liquid, so i can take my eye drops.

And to brighten everything, I got my first comment yesterday. Sure, it was from the roommate and responding to my comment on her page about our cat, but still, I'll take what I can get.

And speaking of the cat, she's doing fine. I think she's just acting funny. I also think she knows something's going on, because she's been very needy over the weekend. She either knows I'm leaving, or she misses Marie. Not sure which.

58 hours to go

Here we are, into the final countdown. 58 hours to go. Great news yesterday - Jacquii got her passport yesterday, not a moment too soon. My reservations are all taken care of. Did get a disturbing e-mail from British Airways last night, confirming my reservation and warning that construction on the Underground is causing delays leaving terminal 4 at Heathrow. I'm not sure what terminal I'll be using, so I'm not sure how concerned to be about that. We have three hours from the time we land to clear customs and get across town to Kings Cross for the train that leaves at 12:30 for Edinburgh. Should be interesting - sprint through a strange city hauling luggage and whatnot. Seems like something out of a movie.

Cat update - The pumpkin didn't seem to work. Gave her some milk this morning, Sonya said that could also work since cats are naturally lactose intolerant. Give her the squirts, and she'll clean herself out naturally. Let's see what happens.

wonder of wonders

Ok, so I've always thought "why should i get a blog? I have enough trouble coming up with stuff to say in real life, so how am i going to come up with any regular posts?" But now that I have one, and i've figured out how to use blogger, every little thing makes me thing "ooh, i should post that."

Case in point: the roommate and I just got a cat last week. The cat's name is Vader, and she actually has a history with Marie. Back when Marie was in college, her roommate brought this cat home one day and everyone fell in love with her. When they all moved out and went their seperate ways, Tanya took Vader with her. Fastforward a couple years to now, and due to some life changes Tanya wasn't able to keep her any more and asked Marie if she was up to it. Now, we have a cat and I'm very happy about this. I'm still afraid she'll pee in strange places, but there's no sign of that yet so it looks to be all good.

But i noticed within the past couple days that she's acting funny - spending a lot of time just standing in her litter box, rubbing her butt on things, and spending what for a cat is an inordinate amount of time licking her asshole. I mean she's really going at it for minutes at a time. So I call my buddy Andy, who has 13 cats, and explain the symptons to him. He thinks she might be constipated, and recomends feeding her canned pumpkin, which is a natural laxative. Strangely enough, I just happen to have a can of pumpkin in the cabinet leftover from a baking binge last christmas. So I pop this open, spoon some onto a plate, and she goes crazy for it. So now it's a wait-and-see game to see if she starts pooping more.

Sidenote - we feel like we have a new baby for all the time we've spent talking about our new cat's poop in the past week.

Four more days

That time is almost here. Four more days till I'm on my way to the U.K., and five more days 'till I'm sipping scotch on the Royal Mile. Very excited, but suffering from some sort of paralysis at the moment. Here I am at the tender age of 26, four days away from leaving the country for the first time ever (Canada doesn't count - it's not even a real country) and I don't even know how to begin packing.

Ah well... I have the next few days to figure that out, get some reservations finalized, spend one more day at work on Monday, and then come Tuesday I'm gone.

Funny thing is, the past 2 1/2 years at Cingular is the longest I've ever done one thing continuously in my entire life, and now I'm gone for two weeks, which is the longest I've been away from that place since I started. Soo... strangely mixed feelings there.

And now it's time for a beer run to settle in to watch my lions get their asses handed to them by a bunch of red sissies.
