bloody hellishness

Writing is a discipline, much like excercise... every time you let it slide once, it gets that much easier to let it slide the next time, and the time after that, until suddenly writing is a chore instead of the norm you want it to be. And suddenly, you find yourself 20 days out from your last post with nary a thought of what to say.

It's been a busy couple weeks, though. I got down to Scottsville, VA this past weekend to meet my new niece Wren, who is every bit as gorgeous, happy, and playful as the pictures suggest. The dog, Buck, is especially well suited to her. We don't know where he came from, but assume there was a baby there, because he knows exactly how to act around her.

Also, got to the movies with my brother, which is a rare treat. Even rarer is the movie being as incredibly awesome as Grindhouse. This is something that has to be experienced at least once by everyone reading this. It's 3 1/2 hours long, and actually a double feature - Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez and Death Proof by Quentin Tarentino. Both are masters of their genre - zombie and serial killer, respectively, and mixed in with made-to-order fake trailers like Machete, Thanksgiving, Don't, and Werewolf women of the SS:

Quite possibly the greatest time i've ever had at a theater.

Also, very excited for the upcoming 'official' start of bowling season. I don't thin k bowling actually has a season, but by god we're starting one. It will be great. As long as the bowling alley doesn't, you know, explode into flames while we're there.
